Our February meeting was our first meeting in-person for 2025! (Thanks to a snowstorm during our January meeting.) It was a beautiful day to gather with 70+ adults and kids for our children's club and cultural program.
This month, we had 19 kids attend children's club! It's thrilling to see so many kids coming to participate and learn about Swedish culture. Led by John Seest, they practiced singing and dancing "Små Grodorna" ahead of Midsommar in just a few months. Brenda Miller led them in a Swedish name tag activity. And they ended with Ingrid Weibke, Carin Young and Ulla Williams teaching them about Semlor buns and how to make them! Thanks to Judi Carlstrand and Judy McBride for sewing aprons for each of our children's club participants, and to Jeff Anderson and Glenn Carlstrand for their leadership.
This month's cultural program guests joined us on Zoom all the way from Stockholm! Åsa and Chris of the A Flatpack History of Sweden podcast told us all about their backgrounds, how they started their podcasts and why, and presented a program about the origins of famous Swedish symbols, such as the Swedish flag, coat of arms and dala horses. Everyone loved the energy that these two brought to the program and agreed it was excellent! Hopefully we can have them back in the future to tell us more about what they've learned and found interesting about Sweden. Thanks to Jim Lindgren for the program idea.
We topped off the day with an excellent fika, including more semlor buns!
We'll see everyone again on March 2 at 2:30pm at the Latvian Community Center for a business meeting followed by a program about "Viking and Celtic Heritage in Spain" from Juan Lago-Leis.
